First Holy Communion and Confirmation

On Saturday, the 17th of August an important event took place at Sacred Heart Parish Chruch three of our year four students, Blake, Valery and Rose made their first Holy Communion. Brooke Williams, a year five student was also confirmed by Father Phil.

After the big event, a shared meal was prepared at Room 2 in Sacred Heart School for everyone to enjoy. Thank you to the parents who brought a nice meal to share!

On Wednesday the 22nd of May, Sacred Heart School traveled to Greymouth to attend Catholic Schools Day. The day kicked off at the local Greymouth museum History House. They had recorded facts, histories and short biographies about early miners in the West Coast including photos and evidence. Valuables and antiques were displayed- most of them we couldn't touch!

After about an hour of browsing and looking through interesting displays we drove our vehicles to Dixon Park to eat our morning tea. Although it was raining we found a perfect spot for all the students to enjoy their morning break.

Next was the big event!
We drove to St Patrick's Church where all the Catholic Schools on the West Coast had gathered. The senior students all participated at helping to create our beautiful korowai which was covered in red, green, black and white feathers. In side are photos of our students and a big Mercy Cross which represents our school. The korowai is enfolding and embracing the school family.

Lisa Kersten, Olympian at Sydney 2000 was a special guest speaker. She inspired our students with the knowledge that she represented New Zealand having honed her softball skills from Ahaura. Thank you Lisa, for sharing your wonderful memories and photos with us. Thank you for travelling all the way from Christchurch to open our Mini-Olympics! We all had an amazing day with so much fun and laughter – and some great gumboot throws! Thank you to: Julie Kennedy, Keile Johns, Sarah Suckling, Karen Fortune, and Lisa Hamill who organised and ran the event. Thank you to Tony Fortune who officiated and Bernadette Snowden . Thank you to Hellers for donating the sausages for our sausage sizzle. Thank you to everyone for your help – and great spirits! Julie and Rory Kennedy donated the Mini-Olympic medals – something for our students to treasure.
